Advocacy Past Case Study 1

Gentleman with head injury was recovering in a hospital ward where he had twice came down with a ward infection that had comatised him and resulted in him ending up in the High Dependency Unit. While this gentleman was recovering in High Dependency Unit his mother was battling with medical staff not to put him back in the ward where he had on two previous occasions come down with this ward infection. This genleman’s mother approached Fairway Advocacy who arranged a meeting with his consultant to discuss the mother’s concerns as well as the two previous admissions to HDU. The consultant agreed that the gentleman would not be put back into the ward he had come from and that he would stay in the High Dependency Unit until neuropsychology assessments had been carried out and a place in a specialist head injury ward had been found for him to move onto.
