Advocacy Past Case Study 5

Lady living in community who had dementia brought on by many mini-strokes was being looked after by her two sons. One of these sons always had to be home to provide their mother with 1:1 24hr care. The mother’s specialist nurse had been trying to contact social work to get an assessment carried out so that care provided by a care provider could be arranged. The specialist nurse had had no luck getting a response from social work resulting in the two sons doing all the homecare causing both of them to have mental health difficulties. Fairway Advocacy contacted social work by letter and social work immediately arranged for social work assessment to be carried out and provided the name of an allocated social worker who would be responsible for the mother.
